Valley Educational Associates
is seeking an Executive Director and Chief Psychologist.
Valley
Educational Associates, Inc. (VEA), a private, non-profit corporation
headquartered in Hatfield MA, has provided vocational training and
employment services to adults with disabilities since 1982. Through the
years, the agency has expanded from a small, eight-person workshop to its
current operation serving approximately 100 individuals in three
work/training facilities and various community-based jobs throughout Western
Massachusetts. The guiding principle that defines the goals of this agency
is the belief that all people, regardless of the challenges they face, can
effectively perform "real work for real pay" and become valuable members of
the workforce. The management and staff of the agency strive to ensure that
all VEA programs evolve to meet changing needs and continually improve the
quality of life of their clients. The new Executive Director and Chief
Psychologist will follow the agency’s founder, Dr. Peter DaSilva, who
is retiring. An active Board of Directors is led by Board President, John
E. Dunn.
VEA has
received seven consecutive Certifications with Distinction by the Office of
Quality Enhancement of the Massachusetts Department of Developmental
Services (DDS). This high level of success is a credit to its long-term
knowledgeable staff and the effectiveness of clinicians; the combination has
fostered a competent and professional team approach to supporting
individuals.
The agency enters into annual contracts with the DDS to serve people with
severe, moderate and mild developmental disabilities. VEA employs
forty-four (44) professional persons, including job coaches, instructors, psychologists
and administrators. Total agency revenues for FY2011 were $2.7
million.
Position: Executive Director
Under the
direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible
for overall administrative and financial management of the agency, ensuring
its stability and growth. Accountabilities include planning and
establishing priorities; developing and overseeing strategic initiatives,
programs and policies; building and maintaining positive relationships with
all stakeholders; overseeing financial disbursements, budgets and
contracting; and providing leadership and advocacy to support the
organization’s mission.
Experience and skills desired:

Significant hands-on
experience managing human services, preferably in the field of
developmental disabilities

Master’s degree in
related field and/or significant and relevant related experience

Experience obtaining
and administering contracts from state and/or federal agencies;
knowledgeable about MA service delivery regulations, processes
-
Ability to oversee
financial health of the organization

Leadership experience
and mentor/facilitator style that encourages collaboration with middle
management

Experience working
successfully with Board(s) of Directors

Demonstrated
strategic planning experience; ability to inspire passionate belief in the
agency mission

Ability to
communicate effectively with multiple audiences.

Demonstrated ability
to analyze, evaluate, develop and implement plans, policies and
procedures, and resolve problems.
Position: Chief Psychologist
Under the
direction of the Executive Director and oversight of the Board of Directors,
the Chief Psychologist is responsible for behaviorial support services for
the agency and provides supervision to other psychologists and clinical
personnel. Services for individuals with developmental disabilities
include
psychological testing, consultation, behavioral assessments, and the
development and monitoring of behavioral programming. This position
coordinates Peer Review Services; collaborates with the Human Rights
committee, and maintains an effective data tracking /evaluation program for
both individuals and the agency as a whole.
Experience and skills desired:

Doctorate in Psychology
with clinical training and expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis

A minimum of ten years
experience working with individuals who have Intellectual Disabilities
and/or Developmental Disorders, and Co-morbid behavioral/mental/health
complications.

Proven success working
in team base environment with job coaches to support individuals’ strengths
and needs.

Fully capable of
leading the agency to comply with Massachusetts regulations related to
behavioral services; MA Licensed Psychologist preferred

Demonstrated ability in
data collection, interpretation, report writing and presentation of
evidence-based program evaluations
